T&T Women Devastated Despite Showcase of Skill

Last evening the T&T Women’s Football Team met with Ecuador for their last attempt at qualifying for the 2015 Canada Women’s World Cup. The encounter resulted in the T&T side suffering a 1 – 0 defeat to the Ecuadorians.  The Women Soca Warriors thrilled the sold out crowd to a scintillating display of football that could easily rival their male counterparts.

The game was fierce and fought with heart. Many of the spectators came for the hype or the lime but left as true and genuine fans of this dynamic team. Forbes made the fatal error or a misjudged attempt at saving a free kick that led to the Ecuadorians win. However, it is doubtful any of the fans could be angry with her after her superb performances leading up to the crucial game.

Disappointingly Tasha St Louis was substituted early due to injury, thankfully however the coach was able to re-fortify the team with Mariah Shade who had a commendable performance on the night. Ahkeela Mollon and Kennya Cordner thrilled, absolutely THRILLED the crowd. Hearts were on edge with at least three (3) shots deflecting off the goal posts (side or cross).

The team came out to win. The passion was clear from the start until that final whistle was blown. The stadium was sold out. The fans brought the ‘vibes’, music and energy. The result disappointed, but the team did not. The entire team played extremely well. Coach Waldrum did an excellent job with the team. A lot of work has to be done but with the kind of passion and creativity they have shown, they should not lose faith.

Congratulations to the Ecuador team, who had a good defense on the night.
